8E Thoughts and reflections

As I have begun to read and comment on many of your works. I have seen a lot of ideas that make sense and have strong logic behind. But it raises more questions. One of the big ones that I wonder about is the following. It is easy to say what is right and wrong and follow the rules we set forth when we are in a privilege where we do not have to sacrifice anything, but what happens when we do have to sacrifice to uphold those values that we believe in. How many of us would be willing to die just so we could say stealing is wrong and should never be done. On the same not, how many us would feel better about ourselves if we didn't let anyone steal from us and that individual died because we were unwilling to share or give food. Wouldn't we rather lose something of monetary value and know it saved someones life. Now this all sounds like craziness but it is the system that Liesel and Rudy lived in and a very similar system that we live in. Is it the best system that we have? I think not. But how then do we fix the system?

Tom Sawyer Chapter 12

In Chapter 12 Tom is said to be sick.  His aunt tries a long series of medicines and remedies, but none seem to work.  Why do you think none of her remedies work?  What do you think is really causing Tom to feel or act sick?  Do you think this is realistic or not?  Explain why.  Think about your answer and write it out in a cohesive paragraph.  After you have written your own make sure to read your classmates and comment on at least one of their blogs.  Your comment must be in English and it must contain at least one question for them.

Book Thief Part 3 Question

While most of us would agree that stealing is wrong does it change based on the circumstances.  In part three of the book Liesel and Rudy steal apples from the orchard.   Is this wrong?  Do the circumstances of Liesel's home life change the ideas of right and wrong?  Explain your answer.  After doing so respond to one of your classmates blogs.  In your response make sure to include a question about their response.  All responses must be in English and must be constructive criticism.

After reading chapter five most of the class immediately had a thought of a time when something funny happened in a setting that was supposed to be serious (School, Church, Acto Civico or any number of other ones). So I ask you to use your blogs as a forum to share your funniest story with a similar theme.

We have read the first couple of chapters of Book Thief and there has been a lot of information thrown at you. So the task I ask of you is to predict what you think will happen to Liesel. This can go in any direction, try to be thorough with your answer and make sure it seems logical and fits with the story.

Recently in the reading we have seen that Anita has had to spend a large amount of time living in a closet. What effects do you think living in a closet have had on Anita. What effects would they have on you? Why do you think you would have these effects? Would there be other effects that maybe unforeseen? Can you think of any other examples in history or other stories that have a similar thing happen?

We discussed in the last post the idea of taking risks to change your country for the better and many of you had different opinions about what should be done. We have now seen that the Mancini's are taking a risk by keeping Anita and her mother in the closet. If anyone were to find out they could be in grave danger. Do you think they are taking the right steps to protect their friends even if it puts their family in danger? Is your opinion different from the last one? Why or why not? Explain.

As you have been reading Before we were Free, I would like you to respond to the following question.  Tio Toni and Papi are involved with trying to take down the government.  Their behavior is putting their whole family at risk as can be seen by the constant problems that the family is having.  Are they justified in putting their family in danger in order to try to change their country for the better?  Explain and support your answer.  You should have an answer posted on your blog by thurs. the 28th.
